Semester's coming to an end!

by Whitney Gray

I have 4 weeks left in my semester and I am anxiously awaiting Thanksgiving. What about you? How has your workload been thus far?

  1. Same here! Two weeks before Thanksgiving, and two weeks after. I have lots of revisions to do, a few short writing assignments, and a 15 pg paper, plus teaching and regular reading and writing and other random things that will come up.

This week is actually busy with visiting writer events as well. We had a coffee talk with NF writer David Quammen this morning, and his reading is tomorrow. Wednesday, poet Kathleen Sheeder Bonanno is going to be in our workshop and her reading is that night, then we have lunch with her on Thursday.

I'm looking forward to the Thanksgiving break, but I know I've got a lot to do both before and after! Mostly looking forward to the winter break when I can finally relax...

  2. I am staying in Columbus for Thanksgiving. My BFF Deborah is coming over from Indiana and we're making a multicultural meal of yum. I have an eight poem portfolio of revised work due at the end of the quarter, along with a 12-15 page research paper for my film class. Oy vey. My winter break is the light at the end of the tunnel!

  3. I feel the same way, Tory. We have around four weeks left in the trimester. It's been nonstop and I'm ready for a break, but happy that by the end of the ten-week term I'll have 17 new poems... now, how when I will revise said poems for my final portfolio has yet to be determined. Thankfully, I've had no critical essays due this term, just lots of poems, and an ungodly amount of reading (for those applicants wondering what to expect at UO). This is good, though. I can feel a change in my writing, for the better, but need TIME to rest and implement, develop, and revise. Happy soon-to-be holidays y'all!
